It was always going to be a precarious operation, but the delivery of one of the Olympic Village houses to Nowra went off without a hitch yesterday.
The house - the first of two to make the journey from Homebush - was used to accommodate visiting athletes during the Sydney Olympic Games.
In future it will house neglected and abused children at William Campbell College.
The two $95,000 houses were donated to the Nowra Hill facility by the Property Industry Foundation.
Yesterday's military-style operation required closure of the Nowra Bridge as the first house was transported from the Olympic Village on two semi-trailers.
When the three segments got to the site, a crane was used to lift them on to foundations laid in the college grounds. The second house leaves Sydney today and will arrive at the college on Friday.
The houses will be joined to form one large, six-bedroom cottage which is expected to be fully functional by October.
Bill Campbell is director of the college, a registered charity set up to provide long-term accommodation and agricultural education for neglected, abused and rejected children under 10 years of age.
Mr Campbell said delivery of the houses was the culmination of years of hard work by many people.
``A team of volunteers has been committed to establishing this college ... and it is very rewarding to start to see results," he said.
